Various types of Casinos are authorized by the laws in California. There are both commercial and tribal casinos authorized by the state, but there are some caveats. Under current California laws, casinos cannot operate games where the direct outcome of each bet is determined solely by dice. This means that the live casinos have to incorporate extra steps, generally involving cards, or remove the use of dice entirely. Under the same laws, online casinos are not currently illegal in the state. There are, however, some talks of authorizing online casinos in California, but all legislative efforts to date have failed. Playing at casinos is something you can do at 18, though some casinos require you to be 21 before you can enter the premises.

As of now, online sports betting in California has not actually been banned, meaning you can essentially bet on sports on the Internet without actually facing the long arm of the law. In order to bet on sports on the Internet, you have to be 21.

The lottery requires you to be 18 in order to play, so do not attempt to buy tickets unless you are of age.
